Why Before Product, How to Enjoy Creating the Kitchen that you Desire
Have you ever heard of the saying; “Bass Akwards?” Yes, if you catch on you know that it is a play on two other words. Unfortunately, most consumers put the horse before the cart when it comes to remodeling in general. When homeowners are ready to start say a kitchen remodel say, they have it in their minds that they want it as easy as ABC. It was the Jackson 5 who spelled out ABC as easy as 123. Wouldn’t that be interesting if we could get through our project that easy? I have heard many friends or relatives over the years put the blame on the contractor or the kitchen store that they bought from when their project went awry. Is that really the case?
I have always found it interesting when I have a client show up in our showroom for the first time and tell me they already know what they want and they would like a price. A few minutes later after a few questions that I have, I find out that what they already know is what they want the cabinets to look like. This is such a dangerous place to start. I also find it interesting that most people give me this curled up nose look when I ask them; “Why are you doing this remodel and what is important to them.” I soon find out that they had never been asked this before. It’s true that “The Look” is important but no where as important than the why and the what.
When we start answering the “Why” for our first action, we unleash the power behind a well done and enjoyable remodel. Isn’t that the first want that we all desire? Our final vision for our project is usually a beautiful and functional kitchen that we can enjoy cooking in ourselves and enjoy with our family and friends. None of us want to live through the pain and aggravation before that final vision. Sure there are always some things that can go wrong that are out of our control but when we control the things that we can, those few small things are a small bump in the road. Before you start your next project, answer the why first and all else will lead you to a big smile. Dare to Dream?
