What does it take to design a kitchen?
I think I am going to need a book for this one! Here are a few things that are necessary: Budget An idea of the “look” you want What type of appliances Time frame Let’s take this one by one. First, the budget: for most people this is the scariest part of the process. Why? Many people feel if they let the designer know this figure they will spend all their money. Truth be told, that is a guideline for us. We need to know where to start. Let me give you an example. Let’s say you want a new…
BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS:
It is something we do everyday and we probably don’t even realize it. It’s not just something we try to build between two people looking for that someone special to spend the rest of their life with. It’s also between a mother/father and their children. In addition, the relationship between siblings and friends are important to build a circle of trusted loved ones. I think we can all agree that trust is the main ingredient in a relationship. You know: someone who has your back. What about building those other relationships? Are you asking yourself: “What other relationships?”? How about…
Man/Women Design Differences
When designing, surveys show men tend to use angles whereas women use curves when transitioning from one area to another. Men seem to like the hard edges of an angle. Angles have the straight linear lines that appeal to them. Women, on the other hand, like a softer approach. Curves appeal to women because they lead your eye around the room softly. Just take a look at cars. As an example, a Hummer is very square, whereas, a VW Bug is much more rounded. Trucks appeal to men because they are square and big (signifying power). Women are not as…
What’s Hot In The Kitchen
One word: Organization How your kitchen space is designed and organized has a huge impact on your life. As an example, if the cooking utensils are located across the room from the range, you will spend precious time retrieving them. Not only are you wasting time, but you become frustrated. Another example, wouldn’t it be nice to have the spices next to the counter where you prepare the food to be cooked? Or right next to the cooktop if you are the type of cook that adds spices as you go? Let the space help you get through your day…
2013 Color Trends
When looking at color trends, I like to start with the major paint companies. These companies spend a lot of time and money researching for a few years in advance. Here is what I found: At Benjamin Moore, the belief is that our economy’s gradual move away from the recession will be a driving factor in color selection, with eyes drawn to softer, more lighthearted pastels that speak of optimism and the promise of new beginnings. “The palette is shifting from super saturated and strong hues to softer, lighter pastel shades,” said Sonu Mathew, ASID, IIDA and senior interior designer…
Women and the Superbowl
I love football and for me the super bowl is the highlight of the season. Having friends and family over to cheer the teams is great. Of course, I love “football food” too! For the big day, I like to make foods of the host city. This year, Super Bowl XLVII will be at the Superdome in New Orleans. Talk about a plethora of dishes in which to choose. Wow! I’m thinking jambalaya, shrimp etouffe, muffuletas, crab cakes, red beans and rice. Holey guacamole, my mouth is watering just thing about this! Don’t let the names of these dishes scare…
