Vineyard “Haven”

Not all kitchens are a cut and dry design. Sometimes we take another room in the house and put the kitchen in there. That was the case with this Martha’s Vineyard home. The kitchen was in the typical in-between room of the house. Unfortunately, it was jammed in the area where the hall to the added family room was. The client wasn’t happy with the narrow hallway as it made it non-inviting to the family/bar room. Get togethers for Patriots football is constant in the fall/winter and the path from kitchen to family room needs to be inviting. Our client…

How Do You Tell A Quality Kitchen?

How do you tell a quality kitchen? There are many things that go into a quality kitchen: cabinetry, hardware, counter-tops, additional features or accessories for the cabinetry, and the labor and workmanship to pull it all together. The highest quality kitchens are typically a combination of great design, high-end materials, quality workmanship, and unique finishing touches. Wood is more expensive than any of the composite cabinet materials available, and solid wood doors and drawer fronts are typical in high-quality cabinets. Examples of woods used in quality kitchen cabinets are maple, cherry, oak, hickory, and walnut. These woods are durable and…

Listening Is The Key To Great Kitchen Design

Have you ever noticed how GOOD it feels to be really listened to? It’s impactful, particularly when the listening goes beyond just the words you’re speaking. That kind of listening conveys respect and promotes positive relationships of all kinds. That’s the kind of listening we practice at Wood Palace Kitchens. Rather than selective listening where people hear the other person’s words, but focus on what it means to them and what they are going to say next, our focus is on our clients and what they are saying. We are curious, open and listen as much to what a client…

Cottage Home Living in the Pine Hills

We are on our 17th year, working with clients in the Pine Hills in Plymouth. Over 3,000 homes were scheduled for this community years ago and they are expanding into more space for many more homes. It’s been a fun project over the years for us, and design and high living is the fiber of these beautiful and larger homes. Over the last 8 years, Pine Hills has adopted the “Cottage Home” into their neighborhoods. Reminiscent of the cottage style homes of New Orleans, they are a beautifully crafted smaller home with a smaller lot size. So many Baby Boomers…

Good Design Includes Storage and Functionality

When you are thinking about a new kitchen, it is important to remember that good design includes a mix of design features for storage and functionality in addition to achieving the look you are going for.  It is relatively easy to dream about the look of your new kitchen, the finishes, the colors and so on; but you should also think about the functionality you need to make your kitchen a place you enjoy working and entertaining in.  Taking a little time to think about storage and functionality will give you a kitchen that not only looks beautiful, but will…
