Timeless Traditional

I have a lot of clients that dream about having two islands in their kitchen. When we run across a home that can accommodate them, it’s a great space to create with. This months featured project has the two island design, and we also played a part in most rooms of the home in some way.

This home had such an expansive space for the table area that it made sense to add a second island. The main island is a large space for preparing food, no matter how many cooks are in the kitchen. The second island serves as an entertainment island with a large, double height stool area. We armed it with a small bar sink and under-counter fridge. It’s far enough away from the main sink to warrant a second one.

The main area of the kitchen houses a big, commercial 60″ stove with a wood mantle hood above it. Not many walls can support such a big stove but this one held the space well. With such a large island next to it, you can prepare enough food to fill the stove at once.

The center wall housed a 48″ wide Sub Zero fridge and double ovens with a warming drawer. To the right of the ovens was a nice hutch/buffet area. Being such a long wall, it was perfect to support the second island.

Other rooms included a nice pantry, desk area and baths. The master bath was large, and had his and her areas, along with a very large custom shower and tub.

The cabinets in the home were Signature Custom cabinets in a combination of inset and full overlay styles. The cherry islands really warm up the space and give a nice contrast to the painted cabinets. We chose a nice up-and-down look above the cabinets since the home had 9 foot ceilings. Bordeaux natural granite tops were beautiful with the Absolute Black upper counter on the second island.

Overall, the kitchen is perfect for two or more cooks and will provide a great space open to the family room for entertaining guests. They both like to cook so I’m sure the kids are enjoying the kitchen now as much as their parents. A beautiful home fit for a king!

Bon Appetit!
