Making Memories

Wow, it’s July already! Where does the time go? I love the 4th of July because it is a symbol of the birth of a nation. I look back forty years ago when I started Wood Palace and think, wow, that alone was a lot of work, never mind a whole nation, lol. It’s a great month of celebration with cookouts, beaches, long summer night walks and getting together with family and friends. The latter is always what life is all about. July is also a great time to reflect on our homes and plan those next projects. I have…

Dream a Little Dream

I can’t help but sit here and ponder on this day of January 10, 2019 on the 40 years that has gone by since I started Wood Palace in my mother’s backyard garage in 1979. I was still a kid, just 2 years out of high school, and ready to contribute to the business world. I have to admit that I hadn’t a clue on what it took to run a business but there was this spark inside that inspired me. In the beginning, people often asked me if I had taken over my dad’s business. Unfortunately, I would have…

Time For A New Kitchen? Dream First™ With Houzz Pro, Wood Palace Kitchens

One of the most important aspects of designing a kitchen is to Dream First™ and that is exactly what we suggest to our clients when they begin the process of updating their kitchen. It is important to know what you like and what feeling you want in any new room you are thinking about adding or refreshing in your home. But it is just as important to know what you don’t like and it is often easier to come up with a list of things you don’t care for than it is to come up with a list of things…

Food For Thought

Food has become an obsession in America. From TV food shows, the over-loading of restaurants to the multitude of food websites, it’s no wonder that we have a problem with weight in our country. I’m also always amazed at all of the diets that I hear about from friends and family to curb their weight problem. There seems to be a new one invented every month. No carbs, only protein, shakes, Jenny Craig, Nutrisystem and the Paleo diet, each one promising the Holy Grail of results. It’s enough to make one crazy. Our yearn though for good food is off the…

Mother’s Day, Probably the Most Important Person in Your Life

Mother’s Day has to be one of my favorite days of the year. It’s that one special day that we get to celebrate the moms in our lives and to show them how much we appreciate them. Granted, we can show them how much we value them in our lives every day, but this one day makes it that much more special for them. It’s a great day to look at how much our mothers really mean to us and how much they contributed to the person we are today. OK, so what can we learn from this day? Maybe…

Do You Care?

One of the biggest problems that I am witnessing in society today is how little people care. From supermarkets, public utilities, retail stores, and restaurants, nobody seems to want to help out anymore. Have we become numb to all of the electronics and social media sites? Have we become so self-absorbed that we turn a blind eye to ethics, principles, and morals? Has the political stage made us cynical? It seems that whatever was right in our world years ago is now wrong and vice versa. What are we to do? I’m a firm believer in ethics and principles. I…

What’s Your Price for Happiness?

As I get older, I realize that habit is so hard to change in our lives. We are brought up by our parents’ paradigm to make sure we save money, and we see through those same glasses for the rest of our living days. We all love a good deal until it digs deep into our happiness. I’m amazed at the construction industry and how little the process of sales has evolved over the years. It’s no wonder why the consumer starts off their construction or remodeling projects with a lot of fear in the trust department. Hence the term: What’s your price…

Servant/Time

The lyrics of Cyndi Lauper’s song, Time after Time ring in my ears a lot in the last few years. Time is what we have and it is so very important for our happiness when it comes to how we spend it. The world right now is full of “takers” and it seems as though this is becoming more and more true as time goes on. I think the country is ready for a change in mindset from it’s people who make up the fiber of the United States. I guess the one question I have is; Are you ready?…

Do Your Job!

Those three words were made famous lately by one of the greatest coaches that ever lived, Bill Belichick. Love the man or not, his philosophy works and should be the fiber of every person in the country. He doesn’t ask the safety to do the defensive lineman’s job, he only wants them to do their own job. Isn’t that what we were taught many years ago in schools and at home? My blog today was inspired by many things and conversations this week but the story of the man who shot those two co-workers resonates this title the most. Here…

Who is Your Client?

I’m amazed at how many people, when you ask this question, haven’t a clue what to answer back. I do get all kinds of answers back like “everybody” or the classic answer, “rich people.” I have to laugh at the latter one. With the average consumer dominating the buying market, how could anyone come back with an answer like that? I have been around a lot of coaching or sales training companies and I have to say, all of them want you to identify your ideal client. The more you break down your list, the quicker you will find these…
